Last year, I joined the TeMa Conference to broaden my knowledge and connect with companies. Looking back, it turned out to be much more than just a networking opportunity.

Most importantly, the conference is where I met Maaike from Royal Wagenborg. Through her, I got in touch with the company’s bunkering and fleet optimisation department, which eventually led to the opportunity to write my master’s thesis for both Technology and Operations Management (TOM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM), using real company data.

My thesis focused on hull fouling and its impact on fuel efficiency, exploring how the timing of hull cleaning can help reduce fuel consumption and costs. This gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into the maritime industry and learn more about operational decision-making under uncertainty.
